  • How to Keep Your Summer Skin’s Dewy Glow All Year ‘Round

Goodbye to summer heat and full body sweating, frizzy hair, and running makeup.

Hot but glowing! Thanks to all that Humidity! Hot but glowing thanks to all that humidity!

We won’t miss you much…except for the lazy days and cloudless blue skies and the natural help your humidity gave our skin’s dewy glow.

But, now it’s time to take action against the lack of humidity and colder temperatures of fall and winter.

We need to boost our hydrating beauty regimen to avoid dull skin, premature (or otherwise) fine lines and wrinkles and a loss of bounce and glow. Here are some steps to take:

1.) Cleanse morning and night – Find a routine you can stick to. This may include a single foaming or creamy cleanser from the Organic Pharmacy, a nighttime balm from the Queen of Clean, Eve Lom, or the iconic double cleanse of cleansing oil and face bar from Erno Laszlo. 2.) Incorporate exfoliation in your routine. – Exfoliate with a salt or sugar body scrub to wash away flaky dull skin, soften skin and help moisturizers penetrate deeper.

3.) Use a facial toner. A simple sweep of toner will prepare your face for deeper penetration of your serums and creams and whisk away any residual dirt, makeup or residue from your cleansers. Try the pH balancing Citrus Toner from LATHER or the Oasis Hydrating Tonic from ODE.

A 10 Second Sweep with toner on a cotton pad can make all the difference in your level of hydration. A 10 Second Sweep with toner on a cotton pad can make all the difference in increasing your level of hydration.

4.) Always moisturize - And then do it again. Apply moisturizing products immediate after bathing or showering and then again, at night. Check out ODE Natural Beauty

5.) Plan on masking at least once a week. A mask concentrates on your specific skin concern such as hydration, detoxing, brightening, or clarifying. You get instant results whether you use a cream, a clay or a sheet mask. ERNO LASAZLO Firming Hydrogel Mask

6.) Turn down the temperature - Avoid hot baths or showers. Hot temperatures dry out the skin and break capillaries. Keep water "hand hot."

7.) Always protect your skin. Even on the coldest, gloomiest days, UVA rays penetrate the cloud cover to cause sunburns, skin cancer, and speed up aging. And, don't forget to reapply.

8.) Hydrate often and Change Your Diet - Drink plenty of water. Eat fruits and vegetables and look for foods high in essential fatty acids such as olive oil, salmon and avocados.Food to Improve Brain Cognitive Functions

Follow these suggestions and you'll maintain well-hydrated, radiant skin all year long.

  • SAVE YOUR SKIN! 5 Simple Sunscreen Rules to Avoid Premature Aging

“Yikes! Where did these lines come from? And, is that a dark patch on my cheek? But I wear sunscreen!” But, do you wear enough, reapply often and wear it all year around?

beauty concept skin aging. anti-aging procedures, rejuvenation, lifting, tightening of facial skin

The sad truth is any amount of tanning, indoors or out, will damage the skin and cause premature aging and possible health problems. But, we can take steps to minimize sun damage by following these Five Simple Sunscreen Rules.

1.) Look for “Full-Spectrum” or “Broad Spectrum” Sunscreen Protection. This is extremely important as you need to protect yourself from the sun’s two types of ultraviolet (UV) rays known as UVA and UVB wavelengths. UVA is the long-wavelength that penetrates to the deepest layers of the skin and causes skin damage such as wrinkles and dark spots, over time. It also causes melanoma. UVB is shorter wavelengths of light that penetrate to the surface of the skin and is the cause of sunburn. Sunburn doesn’t just feel awful but it can cause permanent skin damage overtime. These two forms of light are not dependent on air temperature or if the sun is shining. You can get sunburn in the snow or on a cloudy day, if you’re not properly protected.

2.) Look for an SPF of 15 to 50. The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) will tell you how well the sunscreen blocks UVB rays and for approximately how long. Experts agree that you need a minimum of SPF 15 but no more than 50 for protection. An SPF higher than 50 only provides a minimum more of protection and may not be worth the added cost. The ideal seems to be an SPF of 30. But, as always, it depends on your skin type.

3.) Apply Sunscreen Liberally and Frequently.

Reapply often and use lots! Reapply often and use lots!

20 minutes before before going outside into the sun, disrobe and apply your sunscreen all over your body. Don't forget your ears, the back of your neck, underarms and top of your feet. Use lots of sunscreen. Don't skimp! Apply using a circular motion so you won’t miss any spots. Contrary to what you may have heard, about 2 ounces or a shot glass full, is only enough for your face, neck and the back of your hands. So, slather it on! Finally, apply a lip balm with an SPF of 15 or higher.

4.) Reapply! Reapply! Reapply! When you’re out in the sun anytime of the year, you need to reapply your sunscreen at least every 90 minutes or less. If you go in the water or are perspiring, reapply sooner. Use a water-resistant sunscreen in these cases but remember you still have to reapply often. They are not waterproof, only resistant. Reapply your lip balm often, too.

5.) Limit Sun Exposure. Seek shade. Wear a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves and long pants. Avoid sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm. And, remember, to protect yourself while driving. UVA rays penetrate glass and will burn.

If you follow these Five Simple Sunscreen Rules, you’ll really help your skin stay healthy and younger looking longer.

ElementsBeautyShop.com and Elements of Carytown found a gem when we began working with Christina M. Dick of TFB agency and Tiramisu For Breakfast. She has worked to help us grow our social media presence and event planning for the store.

One of the most important things that Christina has done for us is to set up a Blogger program with local bloggers. They have helped us so much by reviewing the products that we sell and letting their readers know about store events.

Christina's Beauty Blogger Campaign was nominated for an award with the the Public Relations Society of America. She won! May 18,2016 she was given the Capital Award of Excellence for her work with Elements Beauty Bloggers. We are so proud to work with such a talented person.

  • VAPOUR Organic Beauty FAQs

    download vapour

Q: I understand that all Vapour products contain a minimum of 70% Organic ingredients. What is the other 30%?
A: The other 30% is reserved primarily for the beautiful mineral pigments that color the products. It also includes Vitamin E, and other beneficial botanicals not yet available with an organic designation. So the other 30% is natural, just not organic.

Q: Will Vapour's oil/wax base make my skin break out?
A: No. Everyone's skin is different, and diet has much to do with the underlying health of our skin. All  Vapour products are designed with non-comedogenic ingredients that are very compatible with the skin. Vapour will not make your skin break out. Vapour doesn’t obscure the skin. Vapour makes it glow!

Q: Do your products contain any nano-particles?
A: No. Your health and safety is Vapour’s highest priority. They do not use any ingredients that could be potentially harmful. All minerals and pigments are cosmetic-grade particle size – much larger than micronized or nano-particles and will not pass through your skin.

Q: Why isn't there any water in the Vapour products?
    A. Water is really important to skin health but not necessarily when applied topically to "moisturize" the surface. You are better off eating moisture-laden fruits and vegetables and drinking your daily 64 oz. of water, and then, locking that moisture in with a plant oil/beeswax based moisturizer like Stratus. Beeswax lets the skin breathe and does not block pores. Vapour plant oil and beeswax base locks in the skin's own moisture and is anti-oxidant and skin softening.

Another important reason that Vapour does not use water is that water is where bacteria grow. By not using water, Vapour does not have to use harsh "killer" preservatives. Water is also a precious resource that should be conserved.
